Who is Libby?

Libby is one of my favorite Apps.

Libby allows you to reserve digital copies of magazines, books or audio books from your local public library. And the perk? They’re free!

To use Libby, you do need a library card from your local library. Libby allows you to stream titles via WiFi or mobile data, you can also download them for offline use to read at anytime. Once you log on, you can look up your nearest library, and sync the app on multiple devices. Once you’re on Libby, you can let her know if you prefer to read on your Kindle, or on the App, which you can use on your iPad or iPhone. You can also pre-set your settings to only search for digital books, only audio books, or both. So if you have an Audible subscription, it’s time to cancel, and go to Libby and save yourself a few bucks.

The only small downside for Libby, is that if it’s a popular book, or new release, sometimes you have to wait a couple days or a few weeks for it. The app lets you know where you stand in the line and how long it’ll take for the book to be delivered to your shelf. And, if it’s delivered while you’re in the middle of enjoying another read, you can postpone your delivery date, without going to the back of the line, while giving someone else the opportunity to enjoy the book until you’re ready.

You can search Libby by genre, author, or title. Or, search for popular reads, new releases, or even books that are currently available. There are also kids and teens sections, if you want to share the app with your kiddos. Once the book is available and you accept it, it’ll be placed on your shelf for 21 days. If you need more time after the 21 days, you can request an extension, or return it early if you’re a fast reader. And, there is never a late fee, because nothing is ever returned late. On your due date, your title is automatically returned, and if you need more time, and you forgot to extend your loan, you can check it out again and it’ll automatically jump to the spot where you left off. There are also no limits to how many titles you’re borrowing at once. You can have multiple e-books or audio books in your Libby shelf at any one time.

One of my favorite ways to use Libby is to listen to a book while driving or going for my daily walk  around the neighborhood. It also helps the time pass by a little quicker when doing chores around the house or cooking. I just plug in my Airpods and enjoy a good book.

For me, one of the things that makes a big impact to the book is the narrator. If you’re the same, you can sample the audiobook for a few minutes before you decide to commit to it. And, if an e-book is you’re thing, you can also download a sample before diving in.

Signing up with Libby is easy! You simply have to follow the prompts on the app once you have your library card ready. Check out Libby—libbyapp.com.
