In honor of Father’s Day this past weekend, I want to share a very amazing book I just finished reading last month. It’s Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Love and Loss by Matthew Logelin. This book first started off as a daily blog, which Matt kept in order to keep his family to date with his wife, Liz’s, pregnancy. However, during complications with the birth, Liz passed away only 27-hours after Madeline was born. Matt ended up turning to his blog to keep his family and friends informed on how he was coping and how his life with Madeline was taking form. Matt wasn’t an author or a writer when he started out the blog. Just a guy who was excited about the changes his life was taking and wanted to share the excitement he and his wife were experiencing with his friends and family.
I warn you, you might need a few boxes of tissues to make it through this book. Though you start reading it knowing from the start that Matt and Madeline loose Liz too early on in life, you can’t help but hope with every page that the story will some how change before you reach the end.
For those of you who have read Matt’s blog before, his book is not just a re-telling of what he’s already shared with his followers on his blog, which grew in popularity and he has kept going for Maddy and their adventures together. This book takes you through his courtship with Liz. It gives you a chance to get to know their relationship and the strong bond they had. Matt is very candid in sharing his emotions, even his very low points after Liz’s death. He also takes you through his healing process and how a tiny little girl kept his spirits going. It’s a story of love, it’s a story of family and it’s a story of friendship. It shows you how we’re all the same and how we all need each other—our families and our friends in critical moments in life. Matt’s friends, even his college buddies, were there to pull him through the heartache and help him every step of the way.
I highly recommend Two Kisses for Maddy and promise you that you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll believe in love. This book taught me what love really looks like and how a man must have an incredible love for his wife to write about her so beautifully. To be so humble as to keep her memory and spirit alive and to be so brave as to raise a little girl on his own, yet realize when he needs the support of his loved ones.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this book . . . because I know you’ll want to pick it up!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2022: The movie, Fatherhood starring Kevin Hart, which was released in 2021, is based on Matt and Maddy’s life and this book. Check it out—it’ll make you laugh. Though don’t miss out on reading the book—the movie leaves out a lot that’s in the book.
