The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

Author duo Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen do it again. These thriller writers always get me with the plot twist and The Golden Couple wasn’t any different. I spent the entire novel trying to figure out “who dunnit” and I was wrong with every single guess.

In The Golden Couple, everything isn’t as it seems for Marissa and Matthew Bishop who seem to be the perfect couple who has it all. This picture-perfect marriage seems to have it all until Marissa hires a therapist, Avery, to help her and Matthew with their relationship. Once Matthew arrives for their first meeting, Marissa reveals that she’s been unfaithful. What follows since this confession is a series of mysterious gifts, threats, twists and discoveries that you won’t see coming.

Avery, the therapist has lost her professional license due to a situation with a previous patient. This story line will unfold as the book develops, but we don’t want to ruin it for you. However, though she does not have a license to practice, Avery has started counseling patients from her home. She has a 10 step process her clients must commit to in order for her to take them on, and with each step, more secrets come to light for Marissa and Matthew.

However, the secret of who Marissa was unfaithful with is not the biggest secret between them. The biggest secret comes to light just as the book is ending, and it will leave readers with mouths wide open in surprise.

The Golden Couple also touches on life as a working mom, female friendships, and the competition to succeed and have the best marriage and family that women sometimes find themselves in with others.

I really enjoyed The Golden Couple as an audio book, but I’m sure it would be a great page-turner as well.

As always, this author duo doesn’t disappoint and delivers another fabulous mystery. I admit, I am a fan of this duo and have read every book they’ve published as an advanced copy because I can never wait for it to be released. I received the audio book version of The Golden Couple as an Advanced Reader Copy; the novel was just released this month on March 8.
